Incarcerating juvenile offenders does more harm to them than good. This is because the current juvenile correction system is ill-equipped to provide the juvenile offenders with the requisite care and resources needed to facilitate their emotional, psychological, intellectual, and physical development (Barnert et al., 2016). Getting locked, especially at a young age, can be traumatic for most juvenile offenders, which can lead to them suffering from psychological issues.
