Based on the information in the article answer the following questions:

1- Based on the PMT constructs of threat and coping appraisal, what suggestions would you make regarding the focus of interventions to reduce skin cancer prevalence?
2- In what ways, if any, were your threat and/or coping appraisal responses the same as those of the farmers? Do you think the suggested intervention foci would be effective?

Answer preview

Threat appraisals that were almost similar to those provided by Babazade et al. (2016) included the farmers’ perception that holds that they are not susceptible to skin cancer and wearing sunlight protective clothes would make them uncomfortable when working.  The coping appraisals that I found similar with those of Babazade et al., (2016) include the following. That the sunscreen does not help the farmers’ prevention of skin cancer and purchasing sunscreen was expensive. The suggested intervention foci would be effective in reducing the prevalence of skin cancer. PMT will assist in improving the skin cancer health literacy in the rural community.  This will enable them adopting and embracing various preventive measures.  For instance, it will help the change their attitudes towards the application of sun-screen and equips them with more insights which will enable them to appreciate and understand significant of sunscreen.  Also, PMT will help in educating the farmers on the significance of wearing protective clothing when working. Although wearing protective clothes appears somehow uncomfortable when working but it shields harmful sunrays from getting into contact with skin.
