The conflict has arisen because the employer decided to discharge the employee for defacing the company property and threaten another employee. The company could have avoided the conflict by warning the employee instead of dismissing him. The employee has worked in the company for more than 20 years, and therefore the employer could have warned him and then later discharge if he repeats the mistake. On the part of the union, the conflict could have been avoided if they communicated with the workers concerning their stand on the company’s downsizing plans.
