Answer preview

Theories help explain issues in the social environment and how processes work. For instance, Deutsch’s theory learned in the module focuses on conflict by explaining cooperative and competitive motives influence conflict (Deutsch et al., 2006). To understand the cooperation and competition elements, one has to recognize the goal interdependence of the involved parties. This means that an individual may have positive goals that positively correlate with the efforts towards another goal. Still, they may have negative goals influenced mainly by competitive processes that negatively connect with the amount of action taken to achieve their purpose. Worth noting, Deutsch’s theory has limitations, and there are situations when it may not apply
