Answer preview

The proclivity of many institutions to adopt and implement guidelines and policies internally for dealing with reports of abuse and neglect shows that the mandatory reporting requirements have a significant influence on management strategies. Institutions have formulated policies to ensure that their staff are attentive to signs of abuse and neglect among children and are trained to identify such signs (Flaherty, Sege, Hurley, and Baker, 2008). Given that cases of abuse or neglect are not always clear, the institution must develop guidelines for the staff to follow when dealing with such cases. An abused child might want to protect his/her abuser and lie to the healthcare professional by, for example claiming to have injured themselves in an accident. However, the guidelines must indicate measures to be followed to ensure that the healthcare professionals fulfill their duty of care (Itzhaky and Zanbar, 2014).
