A significant problem in the company that went to the limelight was the sexual harassment cases reported by employees. In 2017, a former employee, Susan Fowler, who held the position of Uber’s engineer, reported being a victim of sexual harassment by a manager (Haugh, 2017). Furthermore, Fowler complained that HR disrespected her, got blocked from moving to another team, and denied her an opportunity to advance her career at the firm. When looking at the company’s human resource initiatives, one of the areas addressed is people development (Uber, n.d.). However, there seems to be inadequate training for the leaders and employees of the code of ethics and disciplinary measures for employees who behave unethically.
