I feel that the use of phenomenological/ humanistic theory in clinical situations can be a very beneficial technique. This theory helps to open a dialogue for individuals about their inner thoughts and turmoil, and helps to create an understanding and gives depth to why a person may feel the way they do. I definitely think these concepts can be helpful to individuals with mental illness, it may not be a cure in every case, as some mental illness is caused by chemical imbalance but I believe that anyone can benefit from therapy and receiving insight to the self. I feel that the three aspects of client centered therapy can be applied to every day life regardless of the situations one is in. You don’t have to be a doctor or a therapist to provide an open space for someone to talk to you, and being genuine, caring, and empathic may be highly comforting to friends and family, or even a stranger you strike up conversations with. Sometimes all someone needs to brighten up their day is having a person who cares listen to them.
