ROP is a disorder of the eyes caused by an abnormal growth of blood vessels in the retina for infants born prematurely. The disease mostly affects infants born before fully mature and those who weigh less than 2.75 pounds at birth. In most cases, the disorder can heal on its own, causing no eye damage. However, advanced ROP can lead to total blindness or permanent vision problems (Chiang, Quinn, Fielder, Ostmo, & Chan, et al., 2021). ROP treatment depends on its severity which can be treated through drugs and therapy.
