Answer previewBorderline personality disorder can be treated using a collaborative team approach that involves psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, social workers, and occupational therapists with specialized training (Stringer et al., 2011). When treating a person with this disorder, care gets provided by a collaborative care team consisting of the patient, their informal caregiver, nurse, and a psychologist or psychiatrist. Under this framework, patients will be expected to indicate their expectations pertaining to the treatment they are undergoing, while informal caregivers will be expected to support the patient in their treatment ventures to ensure they adhere to the directives given, and as such, do not quit the treatment plan (Stringer et al., 2011). Nurses, on the other hand, are expected to form a therapeutic relationship with the patient, which will allow them to learn more about the patient and how the disorder affects them. Such information will be valuable to a psychiatrist, who leads the team responsible for the patient’s treatment.
