Answer preview

Despite their diverse backgrounds and unique lived experiences, human beings tend to have common experiences in life. Humanity comes with an aspect of vulnerability as something that would harm one person has a fair chance of causing similar adverse consequences on another. Human civilization enabled human beings to develop social structures in which they would live, protect each other, and face common problems. In this regard, language was a fundamental tool in allowing them to communicate and operate on the same wavelength. Predictably, the conventions of language and speech have developed tremendously over the years, with metaphors and other figures of speech coloring communication with elegance and splendor. However, people from diverse quarters have different views on such figures of speech’s utility in describing illnesses. This essay argues that metaphors and other figures of speech are critical and important in explaining or describing an illness or a disease.
