In my opinion, this Israeli-Palestinian conflict is identity-based as the following characteristics conform to the protracted social conflict characteristics explained by Edward Azar. First, the conflict emerged due immigration of Jews in Palestine, causing a communal content of two identities. Secondly, there developed dissatisfaction on both individual and collective levels on Palestine’s side, which Azar describes as depriving of human needs. Thirdly, the international linkage such as the British rule and the UN decisions stirred the conflict, as it appeared to favor the Jewish. Lastly, as Azar explains the process, established settlement and social institutions by Jews triggered reactions from Arabs, which later erupted into conflict. Apart from the individual frustration of the Palestinian population, such as competition for products and displacement. The collective identity differences where Jewish believed in Zionism and Arab nationalism for Palestinians was the primary cause of the conflict.
