The characteristics of dementia can be subtle, especially in the early stages of the condition. One of the common attributes of this disorder is memory loss. An individual with dementia forgets more often and may not remember at all. Disorientation is another characteristic different from memory loss since it presents confusion (Román, 2014). One may portray difficulty in finding a place or recognizing their surroundings. Language problems are also a common attribute of dementia, whereby it is challenging to relay simply words or understand others. It impairs communication for persons with this disorder. Abstract thinking and poor judgment are characteristics of dementia. They vary because the former involves difficulty with numbers and their interpretation, while the latter affects decision making in certain situations.
