Answer preview
Effective policies are critical for the success of any non-profit organization. They help address different challenges that the organization is more likely to face while serving the community. Moreover, it allows the organization to list the roles and responsibilities of each stakeholder, thus minimizing conflict of interests (BoardSource, 2016c). There are various essential policies that the non-profit board needs to adopt to steer the organization’s success and achieve its mission and vision. In the beginning, the board should formulate the budget policy. In this case, it needs to set a clear policy on who has authority to spend money or commit the organization to financial obligations. It needs to set limits on how those obligations can extend without the board’s approval. By adopting such a policy, the board protects the organizational assets. Setting a clear budget policy addresses how the organization can address the budget overages.
