In this Discussion, you will analyze the current composition of the board of directors for the nonprofit organization you have chosen for your Final Project, or one that you are familiar with, using the Board Matrix Worksheets found on pages 90–91 of the “Nonprofit Board Answer Book: A Practical Guide for Board Members and Chief Executives (3rd Edition)” or using the Board Composition Analysis Template found in this week’s Learning Resources.
2. Explain the size, composition, skills, traits and other key assets important to your organization. Then identify the strength and weaknesses of the current board composition.
Based on the established strengths and weaknesses, the organization can improve the board by representing members from different ethnic/racial backgrounds. Notably, this would make the board of members portray that the organization promotes cultural diversity in a world where inclusivity is essential (BoardSource, 2011). Furthermore, the organization can include more legal and health professionals who understand the legal and medical needs people with disabilities need. The board does not have a health professional from the matrix despite this being a crucial consideration, whereby the organization offers medical support to the target group. Overall, Harford Center’s board can help the organization achieve the set goals of providing individualized programming to adults with varying needs in Harford County.
