In the evidence-based practice of a nurse practitioner, professional accountability can be displayed through reading peer-reviewed journals regarding the nursing practice. Nurses have the responsibility to empower themselves on the trending issues and aspects of their field to improve their delivery of services. They should learn about the current and recent changes that may have been applied in their practice. For example, evidence-based research reveals that patients should not be given a urinary catheter for surgery because it increases the risk of urinary tract infections (Grace, 2017). If a nurse ignores or is not aware of such crucial information, it will not facilitate the patient’s health outcomes. As a result of this ignorance, they will be held accountable for a lack of knowledge on the current issues.
