Organizational psychology

In this short paper, you will identify and discuss one common reason for unethical decision making among practicing psychology professionals in Industrial/Organizational psychology.

Such reasons include:

 Incompetence

 Ignorance

 Misinformation

 Irresponsibility

 Vengeance

 Lack of boundaries

 Tendency to overshare

Once you have established a reason why unethical decision making may occur in your chosen field of psychology, you will identify and discuss one condition under which a professional is more vulnerable to making an unethical decision.

Such conditions include:

 Inadequate anticipation

 Unavoidable dilemma

 Inadequate sources of guidance

 Loyalty conflicts

 Conflicting ethical principles

 Conflicting legal and ethical responsibilities

After identifying and discussing one reason and one condition for unethical decision making, you will find three peer reviewed research articles to further investigate this reason and condition. From your research you will identify a problem of practice at the root of the reason and a problem of practice at the root of the condition. Based on your research, you will propose a strategy to resolve each problem of practice.

Answer preview

The problem of psychologists’ making decisions caused by a lack of boundaries and the condition of loyalty conflicts can be remedied in several ways. First, the APA code of ethics should be implemented to the latter, and there should be prescribed punishments for those who breach it. This will discourage both psychologists and other professionals from making bad, unethical decisions because they will have first stopped being too close to their patients. Also, supervisors should be supervisors who would teach and explain to the psychologists the essence of the guidelines in place and how they are supposed to be applied. This will keep them informed and aware of the developments in ethical issues relevant to their profession(Harris, 2018). Finally, psychologists should work knowing that their main focus is the health and safety of their patients.
