The two software also have shortcomings that hinder the best user experience. Bugged updates are one of the major challenges of Epic software. There are extra bugs with each new update which is frustrating for users, especially those with limited IT knowledge and skills. Epic users also complain about low-quality training. According to Bansler (2021), Epic has many updates which necessitate frequent re-training, leaving users confused about the many available ways of accomplishing tasks using the software. Similarly, Cerner requires months of training for users to understand, which means they will make errors for months before finally getting it right. Cerner is cumbersome and the design is unsuitable for the clinical setting (Abusalem et al., 2017). The complicated navigation system makes it difficult for physicians to use the system without advanced knowledge of IT.
