The relationships that I have formed in the workplace are mainly created with distinct and unique individuals. However, through appropriate self-disclosure, I was able to communicate about myself and my aspirations at work. This process was highly challenging since the first step involved developing self-awareness and acceptance. I had to realize my potential and abilities before disclosing them to another person. Through self-disclosure have experienced growth in developing committed and strong relationships with others. The relationship I have with some of my colleagues began as work oriented but later progressed into personal and closer connections. In the journey of self-disclosure, I realized that individuals do not always share common goals and interests. Relationships have overlapping needs and values, which parties can learn about only through self-disclosure (Spitzberg and Cupach, 2015).
