PTSD is a condition that affects specific individuals who have been through a traumatic, frightening, or hazardous incident. It’s normal to be scared after and during a stressful event. Fear causes a slew of split-second processes in the brain to assist the fight against or escape harm. This is a common reflex designed to safeguard an individual from danger (Javidi & Yadollahie, 2012). After a traumatic event, almost everyone will have a variety of responses, but the majority of individuals will heal spontaneously from the first signs. Even though they’re not at risk, people with PTSD may feel anxious or afraid (Yehuda et al., 2015).
Although most traumatized individuals, though not all, suffer short-term effects, the vast majority will not acquire long-term PTSD. Not every person who has PTSD has experienced a traumatic incident (Yehuda et al., 2015). Some events, such as the untimely loss of close relatives, may trigger PTSD.
