The enterprise of corrections is a multibillion dollar, government-funded venture that encompasses supplies, materials, and services from the private sector. Several jurisdictions contract with private companies to provide different services and supplies, including educational training, vocational training, food and medical services, and other services. In some instances, jurisdictions hire corporations to house prisoners in facilities that are privately owned. There are several potential problems and implications associated with privatization.
