Sometimes, taking a risk as a leader becomes a defining moment that helps an individual learn through mistakes or success achieved. For example, taking accountability for a mistake made by a team under my supervision. This was a good example set to others to learn to be accountable when they make mistakes. Another leadership risk I took in the past year involved a proposal to work with the local community to identify the disparities in care delivery to the older population. This was a good course; however, I was unsure if the community members would actively participate in helping provide essential data. Finally, the third leading risk I took was to evaluate the performance of employees working under me weekly. Though this was time-consuming and not part of the organization’s culture, I was determined to improve their performance through frequent monitoring.
