Regis McKenna explains the transition of marketing as technology advanced throughout the years, where marketing became more customer-oriented than profit-oriented. In his article Marketing is everything, he describes the shift of marketing from cunningly deceiving the customer to blaming the customer and finally to ensuring that the customer is well satisfied. This clearly shows how the marketing industry has grown and its adaptation to ensuring that customers are happy and confident with the products and services (McKenna, 1991). The fundamental goal of marketing is to join the customer into the company and ensure a long-lasting relationship between the customer and the company. Focusing on the customers’ needs and meeting them accordingly will give customers a reason to keep choosing the company and may refer others and invite them to join the company. McKenna explains that the move for companies to create a more intimate relationship with their customers is a marketing method that will help companies achieve their goals.
