Abbasid was the Arabic Dynasty that ruled most of the Islamic territories from 750 CE to 1258 CE after overthrowing the Umayyad’s. Abbasids descended from Muhammad’s uncle Abbas ibn Abdi al-Muttalib, also known as Abbasid Caliph (Hawting, 2017).  According to Oran & Khaznehkatb (2009), Abbasids attacked Umayyad’s administration and spiritual character. Abbasids were from Muhammad’s family lineage, which supported their leadership legitimacy.  The decline of the Abbasid began after the rise of the Shia, and Shiite Islamic groups who were anti-caliph (Oran, & Khaznehkatb, 2009). Learning about this term will help the learners understand the factors that contributed to the rise of Abbasids in power.
