Answer preview

Ethics are the values that control an individual behavior or how an activity is being conducted (Roque, Moreira, Figueiredo, Albuquerque & Gonçalves, 2020). It can also be defined as the principle of differentiating good from bad and right from wrong (Ciulla, 2020). This term doesn’t only apply to an individual but also to a system of operation, where universally accepted moral standards are encouraged. So as to understand ethics, there is a need for the values of the organization and those of individuals to be analyzed (Onyalla, 2018). To be an efficient leader, one needs to embrace their morals and values fully and have a complete understanding of how to make decisions ethically. To create an environment that promotes ethics, a good leader should possess what is referred to as six pillars or strengths of character. These pillars include; respect, caring, trustworthiness, citizenship, fairness, and responsibility (Zhu, Zheng, He, Wang & Zhang, 2019). With these pillars under a leader’s belt, an ethical environment is well on its way
