Giving recognition and incentives to employees may have both positive and negative impacts to their coworkers in the workplace. Watching a co-worker receive recognition and incentives motivates other employees to work extra hard to achieve the same heights. The level of healthy competition is raised as other employees want to get recognized and be given such incentives as their colleagues. On the other hand, some colleagues may feel as if they have been left out. These reduce their esteem and morale towards work which results in them becoming less productive (Huang, et al., 2016).
