Requirement engineering is an essential part of software development since it is at this stage that the system’s requirements are defined and specified. According to Mbaziira (2020), software fails because of the inability to collect all the system requirements. The significant aspects of requirements engineering are functional and non-functional requirements. The functional requirements are necessary for the system to function while non-functional requirements are not compulsory since they do not affect how the system’s functionality. Instead, they explain the behavior of the program and how the functional requirements are attained. For this project, I will be analyzing the Marymount University Emergency Notification System used to alert the Marymount University community of emergencies. The focus is on the functional and non-functional requirements of the MU Alerts system.
