Why does health care data need to be aggregated? In the data aggregation process, what is the impact of using information that is assigned a code as opposed to free text data?
Medical coding refers to the process of transforming raw data such as diagnosis into simpler codes for purposes such as documentation and easy storage (Jones, Ford, Lea, Griffiths, Hassan, Heys, & Nenadic, 2020). Using information that has been assigned a code is important because it reduces the chances of making mistakes significantly. Unlike free-text data, which can sometimes change the meaning of data, coded information remains as it was originally, therefore maintaining its integrity. Coded information also makes the flow more seamlessly since it only needss to type in the assigned cod for one to access ite. This makes data processing faster and makes for a more efficient medical center. Using coded information is also advantageous because it helps medical personnel make better-informed decisions when it comes to a medical
