Review essay The second assessment item is a review essay, worth 35% of the final mark. For this assessment, you need to select a recent incident reported in the media, and compare and evaluate the gender discourse employed in the reporting of this incident across five different media sources. We will do a worked example of this assignment in Week 4 during the lecture on 21 August. Your essay should be 1500 words long (excluding references).
Your review essay is due before midnight on 7 September 2017. Submit your review essay via LMS in the relevant section below.

SUGGESTED OUTLINE   “Bland” overview (one para), including any limits you impose on timeframe etc.  Articles (all text-based) included in hyperlinks as appendix.  Refer to as “Article 1, article 2 etc.”  You may like to contextualise the news source of the article (eg ABC news vs.  The Sun) – discover through text and reading around. o Tabloids vs broadsheets? o Political ideologies?  Can be commentaries as well as ‘straight news’ (you tell us). Difference between fact and narrative could be useful!  Timing of reports may vary (that’s OK … part of your digestion)  Don’t do my example!  References? Only as needed.
