There are several advantages and disadvantages to having checkpoints. One major advantage is that checkpoints speed up the data recovery process which is exceptionally useful for companies that do many transactions at a time. Secondly, having checkpoints is a straightforward process for many users since most DBMS products automatically create their checkpoints. Checkpoints help companies to avoid replication of operations or transactions using checkpoint records in the log file (Anders, & Fischer, 2018). They also have low overhead and can be done repeatedly because most of the older files are automatically flushed out into the background continuously.
