Answer preview
The kind of friendship that exists with AI technology is an unequal friend seen between the ruler and its subjects, which relatively undermines human relations. In principle, social AI and human subjects have different reasons for being in a friendship. Each party, then neither gets the same from the other nor ought to seek it (Ross, ca. 350 B.C.E./2018, p. 176). Even if the commitment from both subjects for whatever reasons can lead to an excellent friendship, it implies a high level of inequality which is not a desirable aspect of friendship. ‘‘The intellectual capacities of AI surpass the human capacities’’ (Cataleta, 2021). Technology has blurred the significance of human beings becoming objects in the friendship to respond to the emotional and cognitive stimulus they interact with. Even if the social AI can integrate aspects of proper friendship where the AI expresses highly submissive behavior, there are few incentives to promote those features (Fröding, B., & Peterson, 2020). Virtue alignment of the social AI
