THE ILIAD

The Iliad narrates the events surrounding the end of the Trojan War and the siege of the city of Troy by the Greeks. It depicts the glory with which human beings view war, which is the reason why they constantly wage war on each other. However, through the narration of the events that are happening in the human world, the gods are seen to intervene from time to time in a way that changes fate and thus influences the outcome of human activities.

The gods have their favorite heroes in the human world (Homer 35). When the Trojans are at war with the Achaeans over Princess Helena, the gods intervene and change the outcome of different battles. The interventions are often to turn the odds in the battle in favor of the army…
