Women’s Responsibility for An Obsession with Beauty

Women also share some blame when it comes to their obsession with beauty. Women are their distractors, and instead of lifting each other, they are always putting down each other (Sontag 3). They see each other as competitors rather than comrades, which pushes them to start unnecessarily attacking each other. Women have to fight other women to attain excellence continuously. A woman will bring a fellow woman down just to take up the position the other woman occupies. Unlike men, they do not celebrate other women’s accomplishments. Instead, they feel jealous and plot how to knock them off their patches.
