Answer preview

Eastern cultures also have their own media industries, streaming things acceptable and morally valued to the Eastern culture. Such industries portray women according to Eastern beauty standards, so it plays a significant role in shaping women’s self-perceptions, potentially mitigating the impact of Western media (Bosson, Vandello, & Buckner 2020). Sociocultural factors such as collectivism, gender roles, and societal expectations have influenced self-objectification differently in Eastern and Western cultures. Such factors have impacted how people respond to media. Therefore, it is important to measure the extent to which we generalize the impact of Western media on Eastern cultures because each culture has its unique way of perceiving the media, and the relationship between media and self-objectification is complex and multifaceted.
