Answer preview The two selected theories are Piaget’s theory of cognitive development and Vygotsky’s socio-cultural theory. Piaget’s theory focuses on how children acquire knowledge based on how they interact on their own within the environment surrounding them. Piaget’s theory describes the emotional development, moral reasoning, peer relationships and the cognitive development in children (Flavell, 1982). The environment is a critical factor in childhood development because it provides helpful information to children depending on how they observe the world. According to Piaget, children are able to make decisions from what they observe because they are naturally curious. Piaget based his research on the biological study of the brain and how it processes information in children.(1018words)
