Looking at Vygotsky’s sociocultural theory, it characterizes the cognitive development through social activities such as playtime. Play enhances a child’s cognitive development since they are able to acquire the abstract meaning o. Also, language is part of the cognitive development based on the sociocultural theory. Children are therefore in a position to express their thoughts effectively through verbal communication mostly when they are three years of age. Adults play a major role in cognitive development because they pass on their knowledge to children. This is because they model the child’s behavior and also give the child verbal guidelines. Such guidelines help the children to regulate how they are supposed to perform.
