For this assignment, you will write an essay describing the arson investigation process. You should tie it to the importance of suppression personnel (i.e. fire captain, fire engineer, and firefighters), understanding their role as first responders on a scene.
In your essay, also include the following.
Explain the arson investigation process.
Explain the professional certification and training requirements for fire investigators.
Explain how fire tests and fire-rated materials assist in investigations.
Discuss fire suppression systems importance to arson.
Your essay should be two pages in length. This does not include the optional cover page and required references page. Adhere to APA Style when creating citations and references for this assignment. APA formatting, however, is not necessary. A minimum of two references are required for this assignment. Paper shall be original and plagiarism free.
A fire investigator and fire suppression personnel must apply all the scientific elements during the arson investigation process. The first step is to examine the physical attributes of the fire scene and collect evidence for the fire scene. The examiner must complete a site assessment on all the investigated locations. It is important that they gather adequate information on the fire and accurately use the information to make informed decisions (Borg, 2018). The report includes observing the fire grounds, the fire patterns, assessing the debris, and examining the fire’s area of origin. The information helps in identifying whether the fire was accidental or deliberate. The next step is documentation of the scene through photography, notes, and diagrams. During the witness interviews, the scene images may help the witness confirm the locations and clarify what they saw. All the evidence collected is compiled and preserved for easy access. The firefighter’s experience, qualification, expertise, and knowledge are important for the arson investigation process.
