Based on the narrative, it is true that when one fails in an area of strength, the morale goes down. What makes matters worse is when one does not know the area that should be improved. From the narrative, the proficiency test disclosed that indeed that there was a problem with Shannon’s writing. Therefore, I believe that proficiency tests are useful since they evaluate one’s language and writing abilities. However, based on research, such tests do not assess one’s grammar or vocabulary knowledge. This is the area that Shannon went wrong since she focused on using proper grammar, enhanced vocabulary and spelling words correctly. The proficiency test assesses the precise usage of the writing language in the authentic text. Therefore, if Shannon understood the requirements in a writing proficiency test, then she would have passed
