Intellectual property rights are majorly exclusionary, and therefore there are multiple safeguards laid down that accord IP owners protection. The protection regime tries to strike a balance between creating strict preventive measures that prevent infringement of IP rights and ensuring that everyone gets the chance to exploit the intellectual property rights. Once a person registers certain IP rights such as a trademark, they get exclusive rights over the said property. Nobody else can exploit the rights without the permission of the owner. When an intellectual property owner discovers that someone is illegally using their IP, they can approach a court and require them to cease infringing on their intellectual property rights. By protecting intellectual property rights, governments are allowing creators to reap the benefits of their investments.
