The traveler should also ensure that she carries with her a first aid kit that will be easily accessible to her and her family at all times of the trip. This first aid kit should be used in any case of an emergency in regards to her condition. The items present in the kit should be replenished so as to ascertain that the patient can gain access to them when she needs them. These items include; an extra glucose meter with extra strips used for testing the patient’s blood sugar levels, fast-acting glucose such as Lucozade or an energy drink, a glucagon kit needed when the blood sugars are dangerously low, an emergency contacts list, a list of current prescriptions, medical identification, spare insulin, extra injection needles, extra batteries required for the glucose meter and ketone strips. The patient should ensure that she has all these items in close proximity to her person in case of any emergency situation.
