Answer preview

As posited in the introductory phase, one must be conscious that interactions among people create some norms and general expectations on the conduct of each party. The reciprocity theory is an essential concept in psychology as it reflects human beings’ inherent sense of responsibility to pay people in kind (Isoni & Sugden, 2019). Therefore, one good deed is deemed to beget another, whether immediately or long after the considerable gesture occurred. Normatively, it is good manners for one to show their appreciation for good deeds. The paper’s elaboration of this theory and its application is based on Gouldner’s writings on reciprocity (Uehara, 1995). In the cited article, Uehara (1995) explains that Gouldner perceived reciprocity as a vital norm that has massive influence on social developments. They are critical in fostering cohesion and creating responsibility. However, variances in people’s expectations create diverse problems that necessitate relying on social psychology concepts and critical thinking skills to resolve.
