Competitive Forces

Answer preview

Typical Commercial Airline Carriers fit into Porter’s rivalry segment due to the intense competition (HBR, 2008). These carriers are difficult to differentiate due to factors such as competition in prices and low entry barriers. Still, I have realized that the industry has a high bargaining power of suppliers of labor. When the crew strikes with unionized labor rights, the airlines have no option but to listen. Hence, these factors make companies develop strategies that align with the competition in the industry. With that said, I do not think of another emerging alternative strategy that can fit in Porter’s segmented quadrant since the five forces address all the crucial competition factors.
