Your final project is a project of your choosing to demonstrate your understanding and analysis of the course subject matter. Your project should directly correlate to the experiences of Ethnic Women/Women of Color and encompass the key themes, ideas, and readings we’ve explored throughout this course.
Listed below are your 4 options for the Final Project “Demonstration of Work”
- Personal Creative Project
- Curatorial Project
- Collaborative Project (2 people)
- Scholarly Essay
Personal Creative Project will allow you to demonstrate your critical analysis of the material and answer essential questions from the reading through a creative medium of your choosing such as art, video, poetry, etc. Art projects must include a supplemental “curatorial” statement” with an explanation of the art piece, why you chose to do the art piece, what inspired you, why you chose the material/colors/medium you chose etc. Art pieces without a curatorial statement will not be accepted.
The Curatorial Project will allow you to explore the weekly topics, collect the works of others and combine them into your own original project with a shared theme such as an anthology, zine, deck, blog, IG page, etc.
Collaborative Project (2 people) You and a classmate can collaborate on a project such as a song, spoken word, skit, debate, etc. and share it with the class via CANVAS
Scholarly Essay is your opportunity to share your interpretation of the readings/weekly topics and offer a critical analysis. Essays should be a minimum of 5 pages double spaced with proper citations and an additional works cited page. If you choose the essay option, consider the series of questions below:
Responses should be written so as to answer the following questions:
1) What are the main points the author(s) and video(s) are bringing up?
2) Is there anything you disagree with about the reading(s)?
3) How did your understanding of the topic increase or change?
4) Are there any significant points the author(s) might have left out of the discussion, and if so what are they?
5)What are the larger implications/consequences of this topic on the experiences of people of color/women of color as a whole (past, present, and future)?
6) Does this topic relate to your and your life in any way? Do you see any similarities in your family, community, etc?

Learning about the various experiences of women of color through the different lenses used in this course triggered a sense of self-awareness I have never felt before. Furthermore, I am more incentivized to fight not only for the recognition of these experiences but also for pertinent stakeholders to take immediate action to address these issues. This reaction leads me to believe that educating the public about the experiences of ethnic minority women, as well as people of color, will trigger similar reactions among the American public. Many Americans are ignorant or oblivious to these experiences, either due to misinformation or the lack of information. Filling these voids with education might improve people’s attitudes, prompting them to take more decisive action to address the challenges faced by ethnic minority women and people of color, such as voting out leaders who fail to act and electing those who do.
