Secondly is connecting patients to resources. Health care in the United States is very costly, and many cannot afford it. As a nurse, one is in a better position to know resources and health care groups that can support the well-being of patients and their families inside and outside the health care. For instance, buying medication is very costly. However, the patient access network (PAN) is a foundation in the U.S. It helps underinsured patients with chronic conditions get treatment options by catering for their out-of-pocket costs and advocating for affordable and accessible health care. Not many patients are aware of such groups or how to access them. Helping patients access such foundations will help them fight their health and those of their loved ones.
