Answer preview
In Chapter One, creation narratives have been discussed highlighting the bible context, historical context, the Yoruba creation narrative, Rig Veda, and Popul Vuh. This chapter is written in a historical context stating each narrative as a topic. This chapter has four sources regarding the tales provided. Initially, source 1.1, which is about the Rig Veda people, was revised and edited by Ainslie T. Embree in 1988. The historical context of this source targeted the Indian religion. The second source, 1.2, focused on the Biblical context of human creation by God. The text focused on the seven days that God used to create the heavens and earth. The source of this text is from The New Oxford Annotated Bible, a revised standard edition in the year 2010. The third one is the Popul Vuh creation version of the Mayas people who believe divine creatures created them. The source was translated both in English and Spanish by Delia Goetz and Sylvanus Morley, and Adrian Recinos, respectively, in 1950. The final source of Chapter one explained the Yoruba creation narrative, which focused on the West African people. They believed that humanity came from several gods. It is stated that “Chief god Olorun ruled the sky, and the goddess Olokun ruled what was below” (p.51). This source was translated by Criss, P. J, in 1999.
