Due to the unpredictable nature of the occurrence of a natural disaster, it is important to prepare myself and my family to be ready in case a disaster occurs. The first step I will take to prepare for a disaster is to seek first aid training. This is an essential course that I can learn in a day and even online so that I can be equipped with the skills and information needed during emergencies. Another step I will take is to create a disaster plan for my family that will include how as a family, we can get to a safe place, contact each, and what we can do in different situations in case of an emergency (Grant, 2018). I will also talk to everyone in my family about what each should in case of an emergency. Another step I will take is to review the kind of emergencies or disasters that are likely to occur in my area and learn how to respond to each in case they occur. I will also make sure I know my neighbors since connections are essential when a disaster occurs. I will also make it a habit to regularly checking safety devices in my homes such as fire extinguishers and smoke alarms.
