The fact that at some point, he didn’t open up fully was challenging to me as I wanted to get the full information as a way of understanding a friend and helping him at the same time. Respecting his privacy and asking one question at a time helped overcome the challenge, putting him in a relaxed state. Many interviews fail as people ask many questions at a go which makes one feel uncomfortable. Also, medical history is something many people are not comfortable talking about, so respecting one’s privacy gives them a feeling of empathy, making them open up more (Slade & Sergent, 2018). Also, moving to one’s vision puts them in a state of comfort. Me sharing my family health history made him feel like we were at the same level and made him talk more about his health as he also wanted to know more about my friend’s medical history. People tend to be interested in airing their problems in Front of respectful and understanding people, and so having such qualities is a good base to start an interview.
