Answer preview

One of the things I noticed during the in-residence component of this course was the lack of trust between psychologists and their patients. This lack of trust affected the quality of mental health care they received. The credibility of a consultant is very important because it aids in the performance of their duties (Glasser, 2002). Without being credible, very few people would trust that a consultant, especially on matters of mental health, will provide them with the required standard of care. Mental health issues are quite sensitive, and as such, a person dealing with these issues will more often than not open up to someone they perceive as credible. A consultant’s credibility is vital to gaining a patient’s trust. The level of care a consultant provides to a patient determines the credibility the patient attaches to their service. Therefore, I will strive to provide high-quality care to all patients, which will require intense studying and a willingness to learn from colleagues.
