On the other hand, the Zika virus is also a mosquito-borne disease, which is the first similarity with the Dengue virus. Zika virus is spread by the same Aedes genus mosquito known as Aedes Aegypti. The symptoms of the Zika virus are similar to the Dengue virus, which includes rashes, joint and muscle aches, fatigue, nausea, and high fever. Lastly, both viruses have no specific treatment or vaccine at the moment, and the symptoms are mild. These are some of the significant similarities between Dengue and Zika viruses. The substantial similarity between Dengue and Zika viruses is that Zika is more severe than the Dengue virus. The main reason is that the Zika virus can be transmitted from a mother to a child during pregnancy creating congenital disabilities and complications. Again, the Zika virus can be transmitted through sexual intercourse, unlike the Dengue virus. The major risk of the Zika virus is that it can be transmitted from a mother to a fetus creating congenital Zika syndrome on infants. Secondly, it can be transmitted through sexual intercourse. Conclusively, these are the main similarities and differences between Dengue and Zika viruses (WHO, 2018).
