Medicaid is the major provider of long-term coverage for Americans from low-income families (Huffman & Upchurch, 2018). The federal and state governments collaborate in executing the Medicaid program. The state compensates hospitals for providing care to the members under the program, and the federal government compensates a certain percentage of the cost they used in compensating hospitals.
