Answer preview

Job satisfaction is undermined by the constant fear of physical and emotional abuse, which leads to higher turnover rates. A stressful environment impacts nurses’ well-being and ability to give care (Mason, Gardner, Outlaw, & O’Grady, 2016). To retain more nurses, both new and existing nurses, healthcare companies must value their nurses and provide a healthy working environment. Retaining employees necessitates the presence of strong leadership within a company. High turnover rates contribute to the continuance of the nursing shortage due to a lack of leadership to define nursing responsibilities and no career growth opportunities in the industry. Increased job demands due to insufficient staffing contribute to the nursing shortage. Increased job expectations contribute to nursing fatigue and burnout, increasing stress levels and lowering employee satisfaction; as a result, more nurses are leaving the field. These issues make it difficult to keep nurses, resulting in a nursing shortage due to high turnover rates.
